The hybrid alternative.....

In the quest to reduce the carbon footprint that each individual is responsible for many people are opting for alternative forms of transportation to get around. This is not to say that there will necessarily be fewer cars on the road, but more likely there will be more hybrid vehicles. While it is well known that many of the hybrid’s available now are powered by a combination of fuel (petrol) as well as electricity, in the coming years most will become fully electric powered.
The days of the compression engines will soon be a thing of the past as many car manufacturers get on board and do their part to reduce the amount of carbon monoxide released into the air. By designing autos that can run on electricity alone or in combination with solar powered energy there will be a drastic decrease in the amount of toxins released into the air. This will not only improve the quality of the air we breathe, but it will certainly have positive effects on the overall environment.
The biggest issue that car makers face is building these cars and making them affordable for all people. The cost of a hybrid vehicle now can be as much as 30 percent higher than buying a non hybrid model. While in the long term there is a savings in the cost of fuel, for many people putting out an additional few thousand dollars does not justify the savings that it can take over 5 or more years to recoup. While it seems like a small price to pay to help ensure a long term advantage to the environment, until the cost of hybrids is comparable to standard engine vehicles it will be a slow process in obtaining global popularity. Until such time that the purchasing of hybrid cars is cost efficient enough for all people to own one, doing simple things like biking and walking to get to work or school can drastically reduce your own carbon footprint.
